Bitube: A Unique and Inspirational Bicycle Design

Breaking the Wall of Classical Bicycle Shapes

The Bitube project, designed by Levent Ondogan of Designoid, aims to revolutionize the world of bicycles by creating a unique and inspirational experience. By looking beyond functionality, Ondogan has crafted a design that catches the attention of even non-bicycle users.

The Bitube project stands out with its eccentric and eye-catching shape, relying on two longitudinal advanced carbon fiber tubes for structural strength. This departure from traditional bicycle shapes allows for a truly distinctive and stylish ride. The special steering mechanism not only ensures easy maneuverability but also enables proper transfer of the load, enhancing the overall riding experience.

One of the key features of the Bitube design is the single connection line from the seat to the structural tubes and pedals. This streamlined approach not only adds to the aesthetic appeal but also contributes to the overall structural integrity of the bicycle.

The realization of the Bitube design required the use of advanced carbon fiber tubes to ensure sufficient strength. The two longitudinal tubes connect at four points, maintaining the structural integrity of the bicycle. Additionally, the steering connection on the longitudinal tubes features ball bearings, allowing for smooth and effortless steering, even when the load distribution is not uniform. The inclusion of disk brakes further adds to the stylish appearance of the design.

With dimensions of 1832 x 896 x 666 mm, the Bitube design offers a sleek and compact form that is both visually appealing and practical.

Levent Ondogan, the mastermind behind the Bitube project, drew inspiration from the curves and strong statements of sport cars during the design process. The structural components of the bicycle consist of carbon fiber tubes, aluminum connection parts, and stainless steel accessories, ensuring durability and reliability.

The Bitube project began its journey in Istanbul on the first day of 2016. Ondogan's research focused on creating an eye-catching appearance rather than searching for what was missing in traditional bicycle designs. By exploring other mobility vehicles such as sport cars and motorcycles, he arrived at the conclusion that a unique shape and structure would be the key to creating an exceptional bicycle design.

Overcoming the challenges of combining functionality with a unique shape and solving mechanical mechanisms was a significant accomplishment for the Bitube project. The result is a design that not only breaks the mold of classical bicycle shapes but also offers a truly innovative and inspiring experience.

The Bitube project by Levent Ondogan has been recognized for its excellence and innovation. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Vehicle, Mobility, and Transportation Design category in 2016. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Bitube design stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and contribution to a better world.
